Longtime Ventura resident Edith L. Sams died Tuesday at home. She was 85.

Sams was born July 1, 1911, in Brooklyn, N. Y., and lived in Ventura for 70 years.

She was a bookkeeper for 20 years, retiring from Crow-Garrick Welding Supplies in Ventura. Family members said Sams was active in the PTA at Mound School and was a Girl Scout leader. She belonged to First United Methodist Church of Ventura.

Sams is survived by her daughter, Betty Mae Locke of Lodi; two granddaughters and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brady Sams, in 1992.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Walter Dilg of First United Methodist of Ventura officiating. Inurnment will be at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.
