The “Scud-busters” are moving to a new home.

In an operation dubbed “Patriot Move” the 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade began moving equipment and materials Friday from the Port Hueneme Navy base to Ft. Bliss, Texas.

More than 200 trucks and other support vehicles will travel by convoy to Ft. Bliss.

The first convoy of about 20 vehicles left Friday. Others will follow today and Monday.

No missiles will be moved in the operation.

The launchers and radar systems will be transported by rail to Texas.

The 35th ADA, formerly based at Ft. Lewis, Wash., moved its equipment by ship to Port Hueneme and then began the drive to Texas. The transfer is part of a nationwide relocation of air-defense artillery units.

The 35th brigade will join other Patriot missile brigades from Ft. Hood, Texas, and Ft. Polk, La.

The Patriot missile gained fame in the Gulf War when it was commissioned to protect Israeli cities and towns against Iraqi Scud attacks.
