U.S. Official Arrested at Rally, Ordered Out

Belarussian state television said a U.S. diplomat had been arrested, released and asked to leave the former Soviet republic after allegedly taking part in an anti-government rally. The Foreign Ministry said the U.S. Embassy’s first secretary, Serzh Alexandrov, an ethnic Belarussian, had taken part in actions “incompatible with his diplomatic status” during a clash between protesters and police.
