Los Angeles police detectives plan to release a photo today of a woman believed to be the wife of one of two men fatally shot in last month’s North Hollywood bank robbery.

Police are seeking the proceeds from several other armed robberies linked to the two men, who are believed to have stolen an estimated $1.5 million in two bank robberies last May.

Detectives have been unable to find the wife of Larry Eugene Phillips Jr. He and Emil Matasareanu died in a shootout with police after the botched Feb. 28 robbery. Matasareanu’s wife has been interviewed, as has his mother, police said.

The robbers, wearing body armor and carrying machine guns, burst into the Bank of America on Laurel Canyon Boulevard about 9 a.m. They were met outside the bank by police officers and a running gunfight followed.

Nearly a dozen officers and six civilians were injured.
