Quake Workshop to Offer Safety Tips

Share

Children and parents can learn together how to remain safe in an earthquake at the “Earthquake/Earthshake: Be Quake Safe” workshop Tuesday at the Camarillo Health Care District.

June English of Ventura County Public Health Services will teach children and parents about earthquake preparedness, home-safety measures and earthquakes in general.

The workshop is designed for families with small children, who will also learn how to take care of themselves during an emergency.

The objective of the workshop is to allow children to realize that an earthquake can be prepared for, said Cheryl Camlott, Camarillo Health Care District Community Service program coordinator.

“If children know this is something you can prepare for, then they’re likely to be less fearful,” Camlott said. “Kids are also more influential at a young age and will encourage their parents to actually make the earthquake kits.”

All children will receive a laminated identification card with emergency and medical information, fingerprints and photograph to place in their school or earthquake kit. Parents should bring a small recent photo of their child to the class. Call 388-1952 to register. A $4 donation is suggested.
