The city school district’s trustees have approved sweeping boundary changes to help alleviate overcrowding in elementary schools for the next five years.

The changes, which will take effect in the fall, were the result of months of study by a citizens group and several public hearings attended by hundreds of parents.

Board members considered four options, then chose a plan that was a composite of two.

Supt. George Mannon said that, though the plan is not the ultimate solution to the district’s overcrowding problems, it should help through 2002.
