LAPD Computer Costs

Re “LAPD Unveils High-Tech Plan for Fighting Crime,” March 26: I couldn’t believe the statistics for the costs of the high-tech improvements. Four thousand dollars for a laptop computer? Laptops sell for about $2,000. Mobile data terminals cost about $6,000? A PC with a 3-gigabyte hard drive, Ethernet capability and Pentium Pro 200 MHz processor only costs $3,000. Something is seriously wrong with the costs and the waste of taxpayer money.
