Shi Advances to Semifinals in Singles, Doubles
Cindy Shi of Orange and her partner Colorado Springs’ Kathy Zimmerman advanced to the semifinals in women’s doubles at the U.S. National Badminton Championships Friday at the Orange County Badminton Club.
Shi and Zimmerman defeated South Pasadena’s Angela Teng and Hue Ly, 15-6, 15-9, in the quarterfinals.
Shi, who is also the top-seeded singles player in the tournament, advanced to the semifinals with a victory over Oakland’s Denise Huynh, 11-0, 11-0.
Ignatius Rusli of Anaheim Hills teamed with San Jose’s Ben Lee to advance in the second round of men’s doubles with a 15-9, 15-0 victory over Ryan Miglin of Manhattan Beach and Dean Schoppe of Hermosa Beach.
Rusli also advanced to the semifinals in singles’ competition with a 15-0, 15-1 victory over Jon Frisch of Colorado Springs.
Costa Mesa’s Shannon Hsu came back from a one-game deficit to defeat South Pasadena’s Angela Teng, 10-12, 11-7, 11-5.
