FRESHWATER

17. CASTAIC LAKE--Butch Brown, Moorpark, limit of bass totaling 56 pounds, largest 14-5, on Castaic Soft Bait. Darin Folkestad, Huntington Beach, with guide and brother Troy Folkestad, 10-5 bass, on crawdad. Patrick Buckley, Castaic, nine bass, largest 12-4, on crawdads.

18. LAKE PIRU--Largemouth bass scattered throughout lake, biting on plastic worms and night crawlers at 10-20 feet, averaging 1 1/2 pounds. Peter Cervantez, Fillmore, 7-9 bass, on crawdad at marina. Jon Harwood, Ojai, 6-3 and 4-3 bass, on buzzbaits at San Felicia Cove and north end. Trout fair for trollers using Needlefish and Rapalas in middle of lake. Family Fishing Derby scheduled Saturday. 19. PYRAMID LAKE--Bass and catfish providing most action. Randy Young, Compton, and Jeff Hubbard, Bellflower, eight catfish totaling 25 pounds on anchovies at Bear Trap. Mark Heisler, Lebec, 13 largemouth and smallmouth bass two-five pounds, on crankbaits at Serrano Cove. A few striped bass caught on anchovies off Nugget Point.

20. LAKE CACHUMA--Trout action fair from harbor to dam, with trollers using needlefish getting most. Largemouth bass picking up. Randy Earwood, Downey, eight-pound bass, on 10-inch plastic worm at east end. Red-ear perch biting on meal worms and night crawlers at east end.

21. LAKE CASITAS--Bass action very steady. Randy Crabtree, Oak View, 10-2 bass, on plastic worm at Santa Ana Arm. Max Freetly, Oak View, 10-8 and 12-pound bass, on shad. Jacob Holder, Ventura, five bass, largest 7-8, on shad. Sven Vanderhei, Ventura, 14-2 bass, on shad from shore. Kym Shull, Oak View, 10-pound bass on crawdad. Red-ear perch action fair. Andrew Creviston, Simi Valley, 19 perch, on night crawlers at Wadleigh Arm.

22. CORONA LAKE--Strictly rainbow trout. Brian Stern, Mira Loma, 15-3 rainbow, on night crawler at north shore.

23. SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES--Thousands of pounds of “brownbows”--a cross between rainbow and brown trout--planted last week but a few were pulled out, largest a 7-4 by Jon Lotts, Artesia, on Power Bait. Lotts also landed an 11-pound rainbow. Rainbow action remains steady, with lots of fish over 10 pounds. Occasional sturgeon coming up, largest 19-3 by Dowell Flanagan, Norwalk, on Power Bait.

24. IRVINE LAKE--Trout providing most action, but crappies to 2 1/2 pounds are getting lots of attention as well. Top trout a 14-pounder by Bill Adams, La Habra, on chartreuse Power Bait at Sierra Cove.

25. LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE--Lots of five-fish limits of trout, with fish averaging one-three pounds and biting mostly on Power Bait. Beginning Saturday, there is no bag limit on trout as lake officials are seeking to remove as many as they can to avoid die-off in the heat of the summer. Largemouth bass from two-eight pounds active along shoreline, with shallow-running crankbaits, dark-colored plastic worms and night crawlers getting most.

26. LAKE SKINNER--Most species providing fair action. Ronny Chandler, Canyon Lake, five striped bass totaling 26 pounds, on shad at Marina Point. Brian Desimon, La Mirada, 4-12 largemouth bass on crawdad in marina area. Michael Kelly, Temecula, four-pound trout, on Rapala at South Shore.

27. LAKE PERRIS--A lot of small largemouth bass, but few lunkers. Ken Smith, Sun City, 11-6 bass, on night crawler at southeast end. J.J. Sierra, Fontana, 10-4 bass, on blue-gold plastic worm at east end. Bluegill action steady on night crawlers, crickets and mealworms. Some trout.

28. SAN DIEGO CITY LAKES--El Capitan, San Vicente, Sutherland and Hodges producing excellent bass catches. Otay’s bite is fair, but the lake yielded the largest bass, 14 pounds by Ricky Bovnk Hong, San Diego, on plastic worm at Otay Arm. Bluegill action picking in most lakes, best at Otay. Crappie bite good at El Capitan. Trout action fair at Miramar, Murray and San Vicente.

29. LAKE CUYAMACA--Trout bite fair, with some limits reported. A free fly-fishing class will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Crappie bite picking up. Jason Towner, Escondido, 20 crappies totaling 15-6, on shiners.

8. REDONDO BEACH--63 anglers (2 boats): 15 sand bass, 2 halibut, 1 sculpin, 35 mackerel.

9. SAN PEDRO (L.A. Harbor Sportfishing)--43 anglers (3 boats): 1 white sea bass, 61 whitefish, 561 whitefish, 5 sheephead, 9 salmon grouper, 7 sculpin, 12 rockfish, 2 red snapper, 3 halibut, 9 sand bass, 12 perch, 2 sole, 1 barracuda. (22nd St. Landing)--18 anglers (1 boat): 9 halibut, 6 sand bass, 3 sculpin.

11. SEAL BEACH--22 anglers (2 boats): 3 barracuda, 28 calico bass, 13 sand bass, 8 sculpin, 23 salmon grouper, 1 cabezon, 35 mackerel.

12. NEWPORT BEACH (Davey’s Locker)--47 anglers (3 boats): 10 bonito, 75 sand bass, 24 calico bass, 6 sculpin, 6 sheephead, 25 whitefish, 7 rockfish, 15 blue perch, 61 mackerel.

13. DANA WHARF--39 anglers (3 boats): 3 blue perch, 60 calico bass, 12 sand bass, 1 halibut, 1 rockfish, 1 black sea bass (released).

14. OCEANSIDE--26 anglers (2 boats): 8 calico bass, 14 sand bass, 1 halibut, 90 sculpin, 1 sheephead, 80 mackerel.

15. SAN DIEGO (Seaforth)--66 anglers (4 boats): 14 barracuda, 14 bonito, 51 calico bass, 9 sand bass, 12 rockfish, 47 mackerel, 5 sculpin, 1 ling cod. (Islandia)--46 anglers (3 boats): 4 barracuda, 2 sand bass, 9 calico bass, 9 sculpin, 7 mackerel, 76 rock cod, 14 rockfish.
