Valencia Prevails on Error

Jennifer Harling scored on an error with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Valencia High a 7-6, come-from-behind victory over Lancaster in a nonleague softball game Thursday at Valencia.

Heather Nix’s grand slam in the top of the seventh put Lancaster (9-3) ahead, 6-5.

Kim Mutaw scored on Michelle Malbon’s single to tie the score, 6-6, and the Vikings (6-7) won when a fielding error on Bonnie Looney’s one-hopper allowed Harling to score.

Kennedy 6, Chatsworth 1--Carin Garcia hit a two-run home run and Sandra Durazo hit a solo shot to help the Golden Cougars (12-1, 4-0 in conference play) to their 10th consecutive victory in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Chatsworth (8-3, 3-1).

Cleveland 7, Taft 5--Freshman Monique Abourched had three hits, drove in a run and stole two bases for the Cavaliers (4-4, 2-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference victory over Taft (4-5, 1-3) at Shoup Park.

El Camino Real 14, San Fernando 1--Ashley Redlin (5-3) pitched a one-hitter, striking out 11, and hit a two-run home run for the Conquistadores (10-3, 3-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at El Camino Real.

Granada Hills 20, Birmingham 0--Patti Del Real had three hits and drove in four runs and Amber Dattilo had four hits and three RBIs for the Highlanders (7-5, 2-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Birmingham.

Verdugo Hills 9, Marshall 2--Jodi Kent and Jeanise Smith each hit three-run home runs for the Dons (11-2, 4-0) in a Northern Confernce game at Sunland Park.

Campbell Hall 16, Viewpoint 8--Molly Jacobs was four for five with six RBIs for the Vikings (8-2) in a nonleague game at Campbell Hall.

Alemany 25, St. Bernard 0--Kim Diener threw her second consecutive no-hitter, her third of the year, for the Indians (11-3) in a nonleague game in Sylmar.
