The accused mastermind of the devastating 1993 World Trade Center bombing will go on trial July 16 for his alleged role in the blast that killed six people and injured thousands, a judge said Friday.

Ramzi Ahmed Yousef, a Muslim militant who holds an Iraqi passport, was indicted in 1993 on charges of taking part in the bombing along with four others who were convicted in 1994.

His co-defendant, Eyad Ismoil, a Jordanian, is accused of driving the van that carried the 1,200-pound fertilizer bomb into the basement garage of the World Trade Center complex.

Yousef and two accomplices were convicted last year of conspiring to bomb 12 U.S. commercial airliners over the Pacific Ocean to punish the United States for backing Israel.
