Times Mirror Combines Bender, Mosby Units

Times Mirror Co., parent of the Los Angeles Times, said it will combine Matthew Bender & Co., a legal publisher, and Mosby-Year Book, its health sciences publishing unit. The Los Angeles-based company also announced that it named Kathryn M. Downing president and chief executive of the combined companies. Downing was president and chief executive of Matthew Bender. Patrick A. Clifford, who was president and chief executive of Mosby-Year Book and senior vice president of Times Mirror, will leave the company to pursue other opportunities, the company said. Matthew Bender’s headquarters will remain in New York, while Mosby’s headquarters will stay in St. Louis. The companies will continue to operate under their individual brand names, the company said.
