Electric Vehicle to Help Energize Earth Day Events

Get all charged up by learning about the new electric cars that will be featured at the Earth Day celebration today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach.

Last year 7,000 people showed up for the community’s Earth Day event. Organizers said they are expecting the same number this year.

Actor and environmentalist Ed Begley, head of the EV1 Club of electric car owners, will be talking at 1:30 p.m. about his electric vehicle, which he will drive to the park.

There will be a Kids Earth Activity Walk where children can stroll to five stations that demonstrate how to recycle material. An ecological scavenger hunt will be held and there will be tours of the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden.

Throughout the day, music will be played by singer/songwriter Toni Childs, the Caribbean band One World, and Gypsy Soul.

The event is organized by Manhattan Beach and Volunteers and Organizations Improving the Community’s Environment. .
