Proposition BB

Share

Re “Oversight Urged for Plan to Build Costly School,” April 16, and “Prop BB Won’t Buy Downtown High School,” April 17.

I entered my vote with mixed emotions, as my alma mater and my daughter’s current school, Granada Hills High, is in extreme need of repair. It has been the object of “deferred maintenance” for dozens of years. But I was deeply afraid that Los Angeles Unified School District would find pet projects for the billions of dollars in property tax, and that the money would never make it to local schools.

It appears my fears were well-founded. It becomes painfully obvious that LAUSD is just too large to see the needs of the community and of community schools. I only hope that the members of the board will listen to the cries of the voting public, and the public in general. No pet projects, no super schools. Your first priority is to make current schools safe for students and supportive for educators.
