From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Nursing homes concerned about federal cuts that will leave thousands of immigrants without Medicaid coverage are denying admission even to immigrants who will not lose coverage, according to the New York Times. Though there are no statistics to show how many eligible immigrants are being turned away, New York health care officials told the Times that dozens have been rejected in the last month. U.S. Rep. E. Clay Shaw Jr. (R-Fla.), chief sponsor of the welfare bill, said he does not believe elder-care centers that receive Medicaid payments can turn away legal immigrants.
