Another Fire Mars Hajj; No One Hurt

A fire erupted in a Mecca apartment building housing hundreds of Palestinian, Egyptian and Pakistani Muslim pilgrims near the Grand Mosque, Islam’s holiest shrine. The blaze was caused by an electrical short, authorities said. No one was reported injured. But thick smoke spread through the building, and some pilgrims were treated for smoke inhalation. The annual pilgrimage to Mecca, or hajj, had already been marred by a fire that tore through a tent encampment about seven miles from Mecca, killing 343 people.
