Man Holds Up Bank, Gets Away on Bike

Agents with the FBI are looking for a man who held up a Thousand Oaks bank Thursday morning and then used a bike to make his getaway.

Appearing shaky and wearing a lime green, long-sleeved shirt, a blue baseball cap and jeans, the man entered Coast Federal Savings bank at 267 W. Hillcrest Drive just before noon, walked up to a teller and passed her a note demanding cash, said Special Agent Gary Auer, who supervises the Ventura office of the FBI.

After the teller handed over the money, the robber stuffed it into a leather fanny pack and quickly left, Auer said. He was last seen riding south.

Ventura County sheriff’s deputies searched the area around the bank and near The Oaks mall and turned up what they believe was the getaway bike, but there was no sign of the man. He is described by witnesses as a white male in his late 30s or early 40s, about 5 feet 7 and 160 pounds, with long auburn hair.

Investigators believe that this is the first bank the man has robbed in Ventura County. This is the 13th bank robbery in the county this year, Auer said.
