Flight Attendants Hurt in Turbulence

Four United Airlines attendants suffered minor injuries Thursday during a flight from Denver to John Wayne Airport when their airplane encountered turbulent weather and they were tossed around in the cabin.

An airline spokeswoman said no passengers were injured in the incident because they were all seated and wearing lap belts. The spokeswoman said the attendants, all women and ranging in age from 20 to 51, were sitting in the galley area on Flight 347.

Orange County Fire Authority paramedics were alerted to the injuries and were waiting at John Wayne when the Boeing 757 landed at 12:47 p.m.

A Fire Authority spokesman said the attendants were treated for neck and lower back pain and for injuries to shoulders and knees. According to the spokesman, two women said they hit the cabin’s ceiling when they were bounced around.

United did not release information on where the plane was flying at the time the women were injured.

The attendants were taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, where they were treated and released, hospital spokeswoman Maureen Mazzatenta said. The women asked that their names not be released, officials said.
