Exhibition records--Forest Dragons 0-1; Piranhas 1-0

Piranha update--First-year Coach Mike Hohensee will spend much of this exhibition game trying to decide who his opening-game quarterback will be. Hohensee said training camp started with Lee Williamson a solid No. 1 and Ron Lopez and Mark Grieb firmly entrenched at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. But he said Wednesday that Williamson has slid a little and Lopez and Grieb have moved up. Grieb, a rookie from UC Davis, completed four of six passes for 44 yards and a touchdown Saturday in the Piranhas’ 55-30 victory over the Texas Terror. Grieb, who is expected to play the final quarter, is in contention for the starting job. Former Arizona Cardinal receiver Bryan Reeves, one of 17 new players on the roster, led the Piranhas with six receptions for 101 yards and a two touchdowns in his debut.

Forest Dragon update--Last week, Portland blew a 16-point lead with 1 minute 12 seconds left and lost to Nashville, 51-48. Daren Alcorn made five of six field-goal attempts, but his kick with three seconds left was blocked in the end zone for a safety. Ben Bennett, who signed in the off-season, was 11 of 23 for 144 yards with one interception.
