Espen “Schampo” Knutsen, one of the most exciting players in Swedish hockey, could become a Mighty Duck next season.

The Norwegian, who had a career-high 16 goals and 33 assists with Djurgarden in the Swedish Elite League this season, is expected to sign with the Mighty Ducks soon, according to a published report Saturday.

“I feel I’m ready,” Knutsen told the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter. “I’m stronger, both physically and mentally, after three seasons with Djurgarden.

“I enjoyed playing for them, but I’ve always dreamed about the NHL. To play with Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya would beat everything.”

The Ducks acquired the rights to Knutsen, 25, from Hartford for winger Kevin Brown in October.

Dagens Nyheter said Knutsen is likely to sign a contract when Duck General Manager Jack Ferreira arrives in Finland for the world hockey championships. Norway lost to Canada in their opener Saturday.
