Program Includes Camp-Outs
Family camp-outs at Atlantis Park are among the activities in a new program for families, teens and children offered by the city’s Community Services Department.
The program is called Family Opportunities Creating Unity and Support.
“We looked at what we can do to help families,” said Marie Knight, community services manager.
Plans include three camp-outs, basketball and other activities for children during the summer,
“When cities are faced with budget cuts, we are considered the fluff and are the first to go,” Knight said of parks and recreation programs. “That happened in our city, and we are seeing the effect of that. We need programs to keep the kids involved.”
