Council to Hear Appeal for Extended Stay Hotel

The City Council today will consider a proposal to build a three-story Extended Stay hotel with 122 rooms in Anaheim Hills.
In March, the Planning Commission voted down the project, saying it was too dense for the 2 1/2-acre site at the northeast corner of Santa Ana Canyon Road and Riverview Drive.
Michael J. Gallen, representing Extended Stay America of Signal Hill, appealed the decision to the council, which continued the public hearing from April 15.
The project has raised objections from area residents as well as concerns by police.
People who live near the site of the proposed project said the hotel would infringe on their privacy rights. They also have expressed concerns that the facility would become a residential hotel.
Police have similar concerns. In a memo, police officials said such establishments “can quite easily become places that transients live in for up to one year or longer.”
The council will also consider adopting a survey area to study establishing a redevelopment area for west Anaheim.
A preliminary analysis has indicated the area showed evidence of blighted conditions and that the creation of a redevelopment area could be feasible.
The proposed survey area encompasses 600 acres along Beach Boulevard, north of Lincoln Avenue to south of Ball Road; West Lincoln Avenue from Knott Avenue to Magnolia Avenue; commercial properties along Knott, Magnolia and Ball; and schools and parks near major commercial corridors.
The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in the council chambers, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd. Information: (714) 254-5166.
