Budget Tops Agenda for Council Tonight
The City Council will receive the proposed 1997-98 budget tonight and consider setting a public hearing on the budget for June 17.
Two study sessions on the budget are scheduled for 5 p.m. May 20 and June 3.
The council also will consider an agreement with Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District to provide police officers for security purposes at certain school events.
In addition to routine police patrols, the school district requires special security at events such as high school football games and graduation ceremonies.
Under the agreement, the district reimburses the city for security services. Officers are paid $36 an hour for a minimum of four hours and provide security during off-duty time.
The agreement has been discussed with the district’s superintendent, but school board approval will be required.
The council is also expected to accept the resignation of Planning Commissioner George Petzoldt, who resigned because of an employment change. Petzoldt’s departure creates a vacancy on the Planning Commission.
Residents interested in serving out the balance of Petzoldt’s term, which expires in June 1999, are encouraged to apply and may obtain a form at the city clerk’s office. The application deadline is June 6. The commission meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
Tonight’s council meeting will begin at 7:30 in the council chambers, 401 E. Chapman Ave. It will be preceded by a 5:45 p.m. study session regarding the Orange County Water District.
