Details Names Caruso Editor

Michael Caruso, who recently was editor in chief of Los Angeles magazine and previously served as senior articles editor at Vanity Fair, on Thursday was named editor in chief of Details.

Details, launched in New York as a hip downtown magazine in 1982, was acquired by the Conde Nast Publications Inc. in 1988 and transformed two years later into a lifestyle publication for fashion-savvy young men. Conde Nast is now seeking to add coverage of careers and work issues, partly in a bid to improve circulation, which stands at 516,000.

Caruso, 35, was fired in March after Fairchild Publications took over Los Angeles magazine. At Details, he is the third editor in chief in the past three years, succeeding Joe Dolce, who recently quit after learning that a search firm retained by the publishing company was lining up candidates for his job.
