Public Input Sought on Camp Area Plan

Share

The county Parks and Harbor Commission will hold a public hearing Wednesday on a proposed addition of 53 camping spaces at the Rincon Parkway camping area north of Ventura.

The area will be open from April 1 to Nov. 1, with camping restricted to the area of existing sea walls along the coast. The area will be open for day use the rest of the year.

Parks officials say that the existing camping sites in the Rincon Parkway, as well as the Hobson and Faria beach parks, are full nearly every weekend during the summer, and campers are often turned away due to a lack of spaces.

Also, in response to concerns by surfers and other day users of the area, the Parks Department has proposed that parking stripes be added to create 264 day-use parking spaces--the number of vehicles already using the unregulated area of the Rincon Highway.

Other improvements planned for the area are portable restrooms and trash bins.

The commission will hear a staff report on the camping-space proposal and take public comment, before making a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors.

The meeting begins at 3 p.m. in the third-floor multipurpose room of the Hall of Administration, County Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura.
