From Times Staff and Wire Reports
About 500 people were out of their homes after the Blanchard River, swollen by a weekend of heavy rain, surged out of its banks near Ottawa, Ohio. Light rain fell in the area and more rain was forecast. However, the Blanchard crested at 5.7 feet above the 23-foot flood stage and started receding, the National Weather Service and the Putnam County sheriff’s office said. Up to 7 inches of rain fell on parts of Ohio during the weekend, and heavy rain also caused flooding in West Virginia and mud slides in Virginia.
