ATLANTA — Former Georgia Atty. Gen. Mike Bowers admitted Thursday that he had carried on an adulterous affair for more than a decade while holding the office in which he successfully defended the state’s anti-sodomy law.
Bowers, 55, the only formally announced candidate for next year’s Republican gubernatorial nomination, said he will remain in the race. But he resigned his commission Thursday as a major general in the Georgia Air National Guard.
At the state Republican convention this year, Bowers said his campaign would focus heavily on family values. Today, the state GOP leader said the party was standing behind him.
