Looking to Enliven Billboard Live

Reports that the struggling Sunset Strip nightclub Billboard Live is being revamped to include video games were confirmed--sort of. “What we would like to do is make the entertainment complex more dynamic,” says a spokesman from the Las Vegas corporate headquarters of Billboard Live International, who declined to comment on why the club is not the hot spot the company predicted it would be. In addition, the company is about to announce its next location. Could it move to Hollywood? The spokesman would only say it will be “in the continental U.S.” . . .
Holy Bulls frontman Nathan December had more to celebrate than a successful performance at a nearly sold-out Viper Room last week. The singer-guitarist informed the enthusiastic crowd (a Viper anomaly) that by correctly answering a “MASH” trivia question on the cable game show “Debt,” he won $14,834 in deficit relief. Now how cool is that? . . .
Good news for Saccharine Trust fans--singer-poet Jack Brewer and guitarist-musical visualizer Joe Baiza are not only performing their first L.A. show since calling it quits in 1986 tonight at the Silver Lake Lounge, they’ve decided to record a new album. Saccharine Trust originally formed in 1980 and was part of the San Pedro-South Bay music scene before Baiza left to pursue other musical outlets (Universal Congress Of, Mecolodiacs).
“It’s a little easier now that we’ve already gone our separate ways,” says Baiza, whose hand was broken after hoodlums attacked him last year in Berlin. Hand and band are now back in business. . . . Science at the Pink on Sundays is a super hot, low-key drum ‘n’ bass club in Santa Monica for those who like their clubs loud, dark and eminently thump-able. . . .
Chris Isaak appeared to be in the house at Moguls in Hollywood on Friday for a sweaty night of psycho-billy and far-out surf music brought to you by the Bomboras, Ravons, Groovy Ghoulies and Demented Are Go, but alas, it was merely a fab look-alike. That’s OK; there were so many hotties in the house it didn’t matter (good tip for single gals: nice boys seem to migrate to this scene--a poodle dress, fishnets and you’re in). . . . Aloha, we’re off to get our Hawaiian shirt pressed for the Weenie Roast and Luau.
