City Plans 40th Birthday Celebration

The city will mark its 40th anniversary this month with a Beatles tribute, the viewing of historic city artifacts and a presentation by the first mayor.

On Friday, the actual anniversary, a celebration at the Fountain Valley Recreation and Cultural Center will feature free hot dogs and hamburgers and a performance by Yesterday, a Beatles act. Elected officials will speak at intermission.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. The performance begins at 6:30 p.m. The center is at Brookhurst Street and Heil Avenue.

On Saturday, the Fountain Valley Historical Society will hold an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Heritage Park at Los Alamos Street and Slater Avenue. Lima beans, corn bread, corn dogs, ice cream sundaes, lemonade and coffee will be served.

On June 26, the city’s first mayor, Jim Kanno, will address the monthly Mayor Breakfast at 8 a.m. in the Saltzer Conference Room at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, 17100 Euclid St. Reservations are required.
