Litton Earnings Up 8% in 3rd Quarter, Sales Up 9%

Litton Industries Inc. posted an 8% rise in its third-quarter earnings on a 9% rise in sales.

The Woodland Hills-based defense contractor posted net income of $42 million for the quarter that ended April 30, compared with net income of $38.8 million in the same period a year earlier. Sales in the latest period rose to $1.1 billion, up from $1 billion a year ago.

For the nine-month period, Litton had net income of $118 million, up 9% from $108.2 million in the same period a year earlier. The company’s sales for the nine months jumped 20% to $3.1 billion, up from $2.6 billion a year ago.

Litton attributed much of its improved results to various acquisitions made since 1995 of companies with combined annual revenues of $1.5 billion.
