Tudjman Reelected by Sizable Majority

President Franjo Tudjman won a landslide reelection victory as expected, but international observers led by former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon said the vote was free but not fair. With just over 90% of Sunday’s votes counted, Tudjman had won more than 61%. But Simon said in a statement that the preelection process “did not meet the minimum standards for democracies.”
