Campaign Seeks to Raise $30,000 for Bridge Lighting
You’ve heard of a thousand points of light. But have you ever seen a thousand points of light?
You might get the opportunity if enough money is collected to put lights on the Vincent Thomas Bridge, which connects San Pedro with Long Beach.
A fund-raising goal has been launched to raise an additional $30,000 to be added to the $340,000 already collected to light the structure. The first lights are expected to be turned on in late August.
The Vincent Thomas Bridge Lighting Committee has gotten $150,000 in government funds and $140,000 from the Shuwa Corp. for the project that has been gathering money for nearly 10 years, said committee chairman Louis Dominguez.
The committee is looking for businesses that want to serve as coin collection sites for the fund. They can contact Dominguez at (310) 547-4145.
