Bullfrogs Forfeit Game to Sacramento

The Bullfrogs, who refused to play because of concerns about the playing surface at the Cal Expo Arena in Sacramento, forfeited their Roller Hockey International game against the River Rats on Thursday.

The game was scheduled to start at 7:45 p.m. but heat and humidity caused the SportCourt floor to buckle in places, so the referee moved back the start to 9 p.m. to allow the floor to cool down.

At that time, the referee was satisfied with the improved condition of the floor, but the Bullfrogs weren’t.

“Our players went out for warmups,” Bullfrog Coach Brad McCaughey said, “and they felt the facility wasn’t safe enough to play in. The bottom line for me standing behind the bench is the safety of my players. It was a unanimous decision on the part of our team.”

The Bullfrogs, which play host to St. Louis Saturday, dropped to 3-2. Sacramento is 1-4.
