The City Council will review concept plans for a 33-acre public park along Lindero Canyon Road at a special session tonight before the start of the panel’s regular meeting.
At the session, the council is scheduled to view a videotape of the existing tract followed by a presentation of the proposed park design plans by park consultant Lee Newman Design Group, City Manager Raymond B. Taylor said in a memo to council members.
Design plans call for construction of five baseball diamonds, two soccer fields, two volleyball courts and four combination basketball/roller hockey courts. Also, the site would include picnic areas, a children’s play area, a jogging path, parking lots, a maintenance facility, restrooms and a concession stand.
The proposed park site straddles Lindero Canyon Road north of Hedgewall Drive. Most of the acreage is west of Lindero Canyon, while a smaller tract is situated to the east.
Vehicles will be able to enter and exit the park from two access roads along Lindero Canyon Road.
Following tonight’s presentation and public comment period, the council is expected to authorize Taylor to solicit a proposal for construction plans and cost estimates from Willdan Associates Engineering and Planning and Lee Newman Design Group, which are to work on the project jointly.
The council is also expected to allocate $44,160 to cover the cost of an environmental impact report to be prepared by Willdan Associates.
The special session begins at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 4373 Park Terrace Drive.
