Juvenile Crime

Share

* Re “Juveniles Can’t Be Saved in Adult Prison,” Commentary, July 23: Donna Mungen cites her experience teaching at the California Youth Authority, remembering two juvenile offenders. There was Joyce, who after she burned and crippled an infant went on to finishing high school and studying literature. How sweet; I wonder how the child who she burned and crippled is faring these days. And there was Hector, who stabbed his stepfather to death. He excelled in creative writing classes while his victim sleeps with the worms.

I am not talking about stealing bubble gum here; juveniles who maim and kill should be treated as adults who do the same.
