Home of School Board Candidate Is Vandalized

Police are investigating an act of vandalism against a Claremont School Board candidate who recently led a successful campaign to convince property owners to reject an assessment for the schools and recreation facilities.

Richard Bunck reported to Claremont police that a large rock was hurled through his living room window about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, damaging several figurines.

Bunck, spokesman for the Claremont Assn. for Better Government, is controversial among school boosters because his group was instrumental in persuading property owners to vote against the Recreation Assessment District. The assessment, which lost by a narrow margin in June, had provided $750,000 annually to the district.

The activist said the rock has been turned over to authorities.
