From Associated Press

Tino Martinez hit his major league-leading 38th home run, the most by a Yankee first baseman in 61 years, in New York’s 11-0 victory over the slumping Twins on Monday at Minneapolis.

Martinez’s three-run drive in the fourth inning gave him the most homers by a Yankee first baseman since Lou Gehrig hit 49 in 1936.

Chad Curtis, who hit a grand slam in Sunday’s game, had a career-high five hits.

Seattle 11, Milwaukee 1--Jamie Moyer allowed one run in seven innings and Ken Griffey Jr.’s two-run single highlighted a four-run third inning at Seattle.

Jay Buhner hit a three-run homer and drove in four for Seattle, which won for the sixth time in its last nine games and moved into a tie for first with the Angels in the AL West.

The Mariners have taken the last three meetings with Milwaukee by a combined score of 31-10. Moyer (12-4) gave up three hits and a walk with six strikeouts in seven innings before Bob Wells gave up one hit over the final two innings.

Toronto 8, Detroit 2--Pat Hentgen was more than capable of pushing his AL-leading complete-game mark to nine. Benito Santiago made sure it wasn’t necessary.

Hentgen, the 1996 American League Cy Young award winner, pitched eight strong innings and Santiago hit a grand slam to lead the Blue Jays at Toronto.

Texas 8, Boston 3--After going hitless in his first 21 at-bats in Fenway Park, Benji Gil tried to make up for it all in one night.

The Texas shortstop hit a three-run homer and added two singles to lead the Rangers at Boston. His three hits were as many as he had had in the previous 17 games. Darren Oliver (9-10) gave up nine hits to earn his sixth victory in his last seven decisions.
