Pacific Sunwear Posts Record Profit

Pacific Sunwear of California Inc., which retails casual clothing, reported a record profit of $2.9 million, or 32 cents a share, for its fiscal 1998 second quarter ended Aug. 3. That was a 93% increase from the $1.5 million, or 18 cents a share, recorded for the comparable quarter last year. Sales rose 40% to $48.3 million from $34.6 million. The company said same store sales increased 14%. Profit for the first half rose to $4 million, or 46 cents a share, from $1.3 million, or 16 cents a share, for the first half of fiscal 1996. Sales advanced 40% to $87.3 million from $62.2 million.
