South Mission Viejo defeated Gresham, Ore., 11-1, in a four-inning game Wednesday night and advanced to the championship game of the Little League Western Regional tournament in San Bernardino.

South Mission Viejo started off with a bang, scoring five runs in the first inning for a 5-1 lead at Al Houghton Stadium.

South Mission Viejo pitcher Ashton White started the game but was replaced by Ryan O’Donovan in the second inning. O’Donovan pitched the rest of the game to keep Gresham scoreless. He allowed only one hit.

In the top of the fourth, Andrew Nievef hit a three-run homer to give South Mission Viejo a 10-run lead for the mercy-rule victory.

South Mission Viejo will play Sunnyvale of Northern California for the championship. Although both teams are undefeated and the tournament is using a double-elimination format, there will be only one game played for the championship.

Because ESPN2 will be televising the game live, it was agreed that a winner-take-all championship would be better. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

O.C. Dodgers 12, Ontario Blue Jays 4--The Orange County Dodgers extended their winning streak to four games by beating the Ontario (Canada) Blue Jays in the Connie Mack World Series in Farmington, N.M.
