Parks Urges Ending 3-Day Schedule
Scores of Los Angeles police officers on Tuesday urged the Police Commission not to scuttle a flexible work schedule that allows officers to work three 12-hour days a week.
“With all due respect commissioners, listen to the officers,” said Officer Michael G. Paturzo of the Van Nuys Division.
At his first meeting with the Police Commission, Chief Bernard C. Parks recommended that the flexible work schedule, which is in effect at six LAPD divisions, be ended. His position immediately put him at odds with the rank and file who consider the schedule the most important issue facing the department’s officers.
After the lengthy public hearing and executive session decision, the Police Commission forwarded Parks’ report and recommendation to the city’s Executive Employee Relations Committee for further review.
