From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A bus driver and passengers acted in self-defense when they overwhelmed a man who hijacked a Charlotte-bound bus, causing his death, an assistant district attorney said. Wielding a knife, Christopher Duffner of Kentucky hijacked a bus en route from South Carolina to Charlotte, N.C., on July 19. At a stop, the driver and passengers attacked him. Four men were holding Duffner down when police arrived. Duffner suffocated by having his face pressed against the door, Charlotte Dist. Atty. Gentry Caudill said.
