California Taxes

Share

Tim Ransdell’s commentary (Aug. 15) challenging the view of many Eastern lawmakers that California is on the positive end of federal cash flows validated my frustration with last month’s national unemployment figures. While unemployment in the United States was listed at 4.5%, unemployment in the largest state in the union ran at 6%.

Using figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this translates to more than 15% of all unemployed Americans residing in California. So, while the rest of the nation enjoys a booming economy and donations from California, we wrestle with unemployment and taxes. Thank you, Washington, we’ll keep the money!
