FRESHWATER

17. CASTAIC LAKE--Bass biting, crawdads working best. Ian Marshall with Troy Folkestad, Pasadena, six bass on crawdads, largest 12 pounds 2 ounces. Monica Chocooj, Castaic, a six-pounder on crawdads, and Stephanie Justice, Castaic, a 13-7 bass. Scott Weaton, Lexington, Ky., 49-pound bass total, with five-fish limit on crawdads, largest 12-4.

18. LAKE PIRU--Bass activity picking up. Reasoner Cove and north end are hot spots. Night crawlers, crank baits and crawdads working. Catfish biting at Santa Felicia Cove and north end. Trollers having luck with trout at 50 feet with lead-core line and Needlefish. Francis Emeich, Inglewood, 15-pound catfish on mackerel at Santa Felicia Cove. Anthony Moreno, Simi Valley, 3-5 and four-pound bass on crank bait at north end.

19. PYRAMID LAKE--Stripers and largemouth bass have been biting mornings and late evenings. Tim Wilson, Lancaster, two 9-5 stripers. Ken Mordica, Chatsworth, nine largemouths and one smallmouth bass on California Worms.

20. LAKE CACHUMA--The good year continues with catfish bite in Narrows and Mohawk area off shore. Mackerel best bet. Trout biting for trollers at 30 feet, on Needlefish and Power Bait. Mornings good. Some decent bluegill. B.L. Fowler, Los Angeles, 20-pound catfish, on mackerel at Narrows. Pam and Ryker Brown, Thousand Oaks, four bass, largest five pounds, on spinner baits and plastic worms, off shore in Harvey’s Cove.

21. LAKE CASITAS--Early morning and late evenings best for bass. Crank baits, plastic worms and crawdads at 15 feet best. Lots of catfish throughout day. Largest cat, 25-pounds in Station Canyon by Jess Gomez, Carpinteria, on night crawlers. Most biting on crawdads. Largest bass, Mike Reoter, Pleasanton, 12-pounder and one 11-4 on crawdads. Rick Miller, Ojai, 11-pound bass on plastic worms.

22. CORONA LAKE--Seventy anglers caught trophy-size catfish over five pounds. Mike Bradshaw, Riverside, 14-7 catfish on mackerel, in trees. Clay Gross, Oceanside, 12-2 and 8-5 cats on mackerel at south shore.

23. SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES--Plenty of active catfish. Sandra Clark, Fullerton, 60-9 cat at Kid’s Lake. Kelly Forsberg, Tustin, 14-9 catfish on mackerel at Cat lake. Louie Cervantes, Whittier, 15 bass caught and released.

24. IRVINE LAKE--Trophy-size channel catfish active with lots of limits. Anglers finding cats in almost every cove. Michael Burrell, Inglewood, 12-2 blue catfish on mackerel, behind Santiago Flats. Sue Doucot, Costa Mesa, 11-3 channel cat.

25. LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE--Deep water is the place to look for catfish, with the 8 p.m.-midnight hours being the most productive. Bass improving, with plastics, poppers and small crank baits best. Bluegills and crappies active in the flats on spinner baits with mealworm trailers.

26. LAKE SKINNER--Stripers are chasing schools of shad. Anchovies, chicken livers best baits and shad tails best lure. Not much action for largemouth bass. Catfish taking mackerel, anchovies, mealworms and chicken livers.

27. LAKE PERRIS--Some bluegills and bass, but few keepers. Night crawlers or dark colored plastic baits best, in early morning.

28. SAN DIEGO CITY LAKES--Bass and crappies biting at Lake Hodges. More than 200 of each caught last week. More than 1,000 bass caught and released at Barrett, and an additional 369 at El Capitan. Three catfish over 10 pounds were caught on mackerel near the island at San Vicente Reservoir.

29. LAKE CUYAMACA--Trout fishing still slow. West Finger Jetty and dike best shore crappie spots. Slow trout bites at lone pine tree. Night crawlers and Power Bait on a four-foot leader best baits.

30. BIG BEAR LAKE--Catfish and bass active. Limits on trout. Drift-trolling good for trout at Mid-lake, Metcalf Bay, Zebra Room, Rock Wall, Gray’s Dock, Juniper Point and dam area. Boaters finding bass at Boulder Bay and Meadows Edge. Cats active Gray’s Dock and Juniper Point.

31. BISHOP--Action at Lake Sabrina slow. Those trolling deep waters getting fish on Needlefish, Thomas Bouyants and colored plastic.

32. MAMMOTH LAKES--Fishing picking up at Rock Creek Lake. Shore fishing with worms or Sierra Gold best bet. South Shore and the back side of Convict Lake good for trout with worms or rainbow Power Bait. At Hot Creek, pheasant tail nymphs and small caddis flies still working for browns and rainbows up to 16 inches. Red salmon eggs and small spinners best for pan-size rainbows at Mammoth Creek.

33. JUNE LAKE--Lake stocked with Alpers and rainbow trout, limits on both. Power Bait, Thomas Bouyants and worms best.

34. BRIDGEPORT--Flow on East Walker River up a bit, making fishing tough. Bridgeport Lake showing dramatic improvement with lake level lowering. Trolling and still-fishing on anchored boats best. Lots of two-five-pound rainbows with occasional brown trout on night crawlers and floating baits. Weather cooling off.
