Marinovich Warrant Suspended

Staff Reports

Former USC and Raider quarterback Todd Marinovich failed to show in court on drug charges Thursday for the second time, but a judge agreed to suspend a bench warrant, a court clerk said.

The bench warrant, which was issued last week when neither Marinovich nor his attorney appeared in court for a pretrial hearing, will be held until Sept. 2, the next scheduled court date. The decision was made at the request of Marinovich’s attorney, Gary Pohlson, who was in South Orange County Municipal Court in Laguna Niguel on Thursday to speak on behalf of his client, the clerk said.

The former athlete is accused of cultivating marijuana and two drug-related misdemeanors after investigators found a marijuana plant, a bag of marijuana, a syringe and prescription medicine not in Marinovich’s name at his Dana Point home earlier this year. Authorities said at the time they were called to the residence to help one of Marinovich’s friends who was unconscious.
