How did you get started?

In music videos. Back then, people would call and say, ‘Hey, can you do makeup? And do you own an iron? Can you bring it?’

The ‘80s, apparently, are back. What’s the one look from then you never want to see again?

White concealer around the eyes--very raccooniana. And heavy swipes of terra-cotta blush.

What made you want to get into the business?

I was obsessed with makeovers. Remember ‘Grease’? In the beginning, Sandy is all demure and then at the end she’s all tough and foxy. And magazines like Mademoiselle, where they’d always include photos of the girls before and after. I loved that sense of transformation.

Anything you still obsess about?

We were in London last month doing a shoot for Cosmopolitan and they had this one beautiful silver evening dress. I’m always giving everyone mental makeovers and I now have this photo in my wallet of this amazing dress, and if someone doesn’t wear this dress to the Emmys, I’m going to cry. I’m determined that someone I know is going to look beautiful wearing it.

It’s Sunday morning. You’re reading the paper. How do you look?

Please . . . Honestly, for everyday I wear mascara, blush and lipstick. That’s it. I just don’t have time. People always comment about how makeup artists never wear makeup, but we’re there to work.
