Edward Carroll, a member of the faculty and administration at UC Riverside since 1976, will become dean of Cal State Northridge’s College of Science and Mathematics today, university officials said.

Carroll will replace Donald Bianchi, who died in March 1996. Paul Klinedinst has been serving as interim dean.

“We’re delighted Dr. Carroll has chosen to come to Northridge,” said Louanne Kennedy, CSUN’s provost and vice president for academic affairs.

“He is a distinguished scholar with strong experience in science and math education. He has tremendous energy, and he will be a great asset to the college and the university.”

Carroll spent 21 years on the UCR faculty and held part-time appointments since 1993 as associate dean of the graduate division and associate dean of research.

A graduate of Cal State Sacramento, Carroll earned a doctorate in biochemistry at UC Davis in 1972 and completed postdoctoral training at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography at UC San Diego in 1975.

As a researcher, Carroll has focused mainly on the molecular aspects of animal fertilization and development.
