Soldier Who Shot at Arabs Avoids Trial

An Israeli soldier who opened fire on a Palestinian marketplace will be confined to a psychiatric hospital indefinitely and will not stand trial, a military court ruled. The Tel Aviv court found that Noam Friedman, 22, was psychotic when he fired 15 rounds toward Palestinian shoppers in downtown Hebron in the West Bank on Jan. 1. He wounded four people before fellow Israeli soldiers overpowered him.
