Band Booster Club Recovers Stolen Items

About $4,000 worth of stolen equipment belonging to the Simi Valley High School Music Boosters club was recently recovered after one of the burglars, at the urging of his parents, told two club members where they could find the goods.

Boosters Karl Wagner and Lynn Hubbard retrieved the equipment from a Simi Valley home Thursday night, after the parents saw an item in the newspaper that day and pressured their son to call Wagner.

“They put two and two together and started asking [their son] some questions,” said Wagner.

Wagner said the burglary was committed by at least two people but refused to reveal their names, adding that boosters would not push authorities to file felony charges.

“We’re pleased we got [the equipment] back,” he said.

Among the items recovered were two Honda three-wheel all-terrain cycles, a five-kilowatt generator, a wagon for transporting band equipment and a 75-foot extension cord.

Simi Valley Police Sgt. Danny Dunbar said the case has been officially closed.

The items were first noticed missing from a storage shack on the school’s campus Aug. 18. Boosters had already embarked on a fund-raising drive to replace the items when Wagner received the call.

The school gets about $50,000 annually from donations, fund-raisers and student fees to support the high school’s concert, marching and jazz bands as well as its wind ensemble.
