Charles L. Ruby, 96, Namesake of Gerontology Center, Dies
Charles L. Ruby, namesake of the Charles L. and Rachael E. Ruby Gerontology Center at Cal State Fullerton, has died. He was 96.
Ruby, born in Indiana on Dec. 28, 1900, dedicated his life to education, teaching law courses at Fullerton College and holding memberships in numerous professional organizations.
After he retired in 1966, he joined Cal State Fullerton’s Continuing Learning Experience, an organization of 400 retired professionals who promote education for senior citizens. Ruby played a leading role in the group’s planning and fund-raising for the $2.5-million gerontology center, which opened in 1988 to conduct research on improving the lives of the elderly.
The center was named in honor of Ruby and his late wife.
Ruby died Saturday in Fullerton of natural causes, said a family spokesman.
He is survived by three children: Phyllis Braskat and Martin Dale, both of Visalia, and Charles L. Ruby Jr., of Sausalito.
A memorial service at the gerontology center is planned for Sept. 27 at 2 p.m.
