In the wake of criticism from two state attorneys general, Nestle agreed to relabel a new product that features Disney movie figures encased in a chocolate-covered plastic ball. Swiss-based Nestle refused to pull Nestle Magic from store shelves, despite claims by Minnesota Atty. Gen. Hubert Humphrey III and Connecticut Atty. Gen. Richard Blumenthal that the candy-toy product poses a potential choking risk to young children. However, the Swiss candy giant said it will note on new labels that it is intended for children who are at least 3 years old. Nestle also agreed to submit to all tests by Minnesota safety officials and to continue discussions about the product. Federal health officials have said Nestle Magic appears safe; the toy inside is too big to choke on and is encased in a plastic shell not expected to chip teeth. Nestle’s American depositary receipts closed at $59.75, down 75 cents, in over-the-counter trading.
